Third Nationally Determined Contribution: important things for Loksewa 

(Note: Here I have included only a few pieces of information about third nationally determined contributions that are important for the forestry loksewa exam for both subjective and objective. Important things for objective are highlighted in red letters.)

• Nepal Prepares NDC 3.0 under Paris agreement for the period upto 2035.
• Targets to achieve net zero emission of carbon dioxide by 2045 as of second nationally determined contribution.

Quantified Mitigation Targets

Maintain at least 46% of the total area of the country under forest cover (including other forest land limited to 2.7%) and advance sustainable forest management.

Urban and rural settlement

By 2030, low-carbon, climate-resilient and inclusive practices (cycling, plantation, maintenance of green belts and parks, and use of electric vehicles) will be identified and promoted.

Adaptation Priorities

The total cost of NDC's adaptation priorities from 2025 to 2035 are estimated to be in the range of USD 18-20 billion, which are expected to be met from international climate finance and support.

• By 2035 establish agroforestry systems at the rate of at least 5000 ha per year.
• By 2035 reduce forest fire incidents and biodiversity loss caused by fires while restoring and managing degraded ecosystems.
• By 2035 increase employment and job opportunities in sustainable forest management.
• By 2030 promote sustainable forest-based livelihoods, increasing high-value forest products by 50%.
• Launching the "Forest for Food Grain" programme in 100 community-managed forests.
• By 2035 watershed health will be improved in 20 districts through integrated management of 164 river systems in chure.
• A sustainable management and conservation plan for 4 river basins and 10 independent basins will be prepared and implemented.
• By 2030 climate-resilient and inclusive urban environment management guidelines will be developed.

Costing of NDC 3.0

The total cost of NDC's quantified mitigation targets till 2035 are estimated to be USD 73.74 billion (14.68% unconditional and 85.32% conditional)

For NDC's adaptation priorities till 2035, total cost was estimated to be in the range of USD 18-20 billion.
